<p>The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of cyclohexanol derivatives having the general formula: (I) wherein R1 and R2, which are identical, each represent a N3 or NH2 group, and of the acid addition salts of the derivative containing two NH2 groups, characterized in that a compound of the formula: (II) wherein R3 represents a N3 group when R4 represents a hydrogen atom and R3 represents a hydrogen atom when R4 represents an alkanesulphonyloxy or arenesulphonyloxy group and R5 represents an alkanesulphonyl or arenesulphonyl group, is heated in a suitable medium and in the presence of an alkali metal azide to form: a) the required diazide of formula I, or b) the required diazide of formula I which is further hydrogenated in an appropriate solvent and in the presence of a suitable catalyst to obtain the required diaminocyclitol of formula I, which may, if desired, be treated with an appropriate quantity of an organic or inorganic acid to provide an acid addition salt of the said diaminocyclitol. The cyclohexanediol derivatives in question are useful as intermediates in the preparation of antibiotics of the hybrimycin series.</p> |
