An apparatus and a method for providing a picture file are provided to classify picture files according to a predetermined direction based on a specific subject location, thereby enabling a user to search a photo which photographs a specific subject location and a photo which is photographed at a specific subject location easily. One or more picture files are searched based on a predetermined location(610). One or more picture files comprises picture data, location information indicating a location in which detailed picture data is generated and direction information indicating a direction which a subject in the photo data is photographed. The searched one file is displayed while displaying the direction information included in the photo file(620).
