<p>The structural beam is fabricated from sheet metal, has top and bottom flanges of C, U or Z sections, and has a latticework web. The flanges sections (F) are derived by either folding or rolling sheet-metal pieces, and the web (W) is of a linear undulating form i.e. of straight diagonal members. The web members (W) are fabricated from a strip of uniform width, are of e.g. a folded winged 'U' section for stiffness, and have cranked plane ends. The cranked ends are fitted flush with the corresponding webs of the flange sections and are fixed by either spot or stud welding. The web members may be fabricated individually or in a continuous strip.</p> |
