Toys with elastic limbs which can grip a support are made with the limbs integral with the trunk of the toy either by cutting a suitable shape from a block of elastic foam or by cutting a profile in flat sheet which is a laminate of a flexible foam and an elastic material and subsequently heat-forming the elastic layer. The forming may be achieved by annealing a pre-form distorted by suitable elastic ties (rubber bands) of various degrees of tension. Opt. the elastic layer is a heat-shrinkable film and the foam of flexible polyurethane. The toy can be manipulated by squeezing the body of the toy with one hand, is of simpler construction and potentially less hazardous than toys incorporating internal metal springs or levers. |
