Blood purifier involving semipermeable and absorbent filters - for removal of toxic and urogenous metabolites from a small blood volume

A pu rifier extracts toxic metabolites and/or urogens from blood in which the blood passes through a passage between a selectively permeable membrane and an absorbent material enclosed in a porous membrane. The purifier comprises alternate layers of permeable membrane and enclosed absorbent in helical or serpentine layers normal to flow paths of the blood between the layers. Used to obtain the combined effects of dialysis/diafiltration through selective fermentation and haemoperfusion through an absorbent simultaneously. The overall capacity of the system is relatively small, reducing the volume and residence time of blood outside the parent body. The selective membrane extracts water, electrolytes, urea, ammonia, etc. The absorbent fixes toxic metabolites.
