Optical fibre end termination fixing system - uses microscope to align optical fibre and end termination before soldering and uses metallised coating to assist soldering

The optical fibre termination fixing system uses a microscope to adjust the position of the optical fibre end (2) relative to the end termination (1). The end of the optical fibre (2) has a metallised coating (4) e.g. a silver upon copper coating, and is held by a first adjustable block (8), while the end termination (1) is held by a second adjustment block (6). The microscope is aligned with the central axis of the end termination to control the insertion of the optical fibre end. The mettalised coating (4) on the latter is then soldered to the end termination (1).
