The electrode surface is connected via sec. conductors to prim. conductors, which have threaded bushes for the connection of current leads. Prim. conductors consist of tubes contg. metal bars embedded in a material which is mainly liq. at the plant operating temp. Tubes are pref. Ti, Nb, Ta, or an alloy of these metals, a sintered metal, or an oxide ceramic; or Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, or an alloy of these metals. Material is pref. Wood's-, Roses-, or Lipowitz- metal, Na and/or K; or a metal oxide or graphite impregnated with a low m.pt. metal or alloy. Metals such as Ti, Nb, or Ta used for the working electrode surface and the conductors have low electric conductivity. The metal bars with high conductivity ensure even current distribution over the entire electrode.
