The pitch has a softening point, according to the Kramer Sarnow method. of 130-150 degrees C. The use of low temp. tar pitch enables ver thin threads to be produced which have a greater strength than threads produced from high temp. tar pitch. For example threads of 5-15 mu dia. may be produced with tensile strength 60-140 kg/1mm2, even after a very rapid after-treatment.
