Gear cutting machine tool - has play due to tool deflection eliminated by controlling tool pressure w.r.t. slide travel using fluid cylinder

In ordr to take up play due to an additional force is exerted on the cutter by means of hydraulic or pneumatic pressure cylinder. The pressure of the fluid or air is controlled by a device which is dependant on the travel of the slide supporting the cutter. The relationship between slide travel and cutter force is controlled by a probe which follows a template or pattern corresponding to the gear tooth. Instead of increasing the pressure on the cutter the system can be arranged to exert a braking force on the cutter which is dependent on the travel of the slide supporting the cutter.
