The parent patent describes a vessel for the protection of a measuring instrument against high temps., comprising a water vessel with steam outlet(s), enclosed in a heat insulating container. The vessel is modified to increase the thermal resistance and heat capacity of the protective vessel and thus increase the time constant of the temp. gradient. The water vessel which is connected thermally conducting to a protective chamber in which a Dewar flask houses a measuring instrument, is formed by a nest of boxes in which the water between the first two vapories first, forming a space without water. The vapour arising is deflected by baffle plates and escapes via pipe stubs into the heat insulation so as to cool it. In the insulating chamber, radiation screens are fitted, and steam outlet(s) are provided.
