Crane with tubular tower - has tower welded direct to side webs of transverse box girder to reduce material and labour costs

The crane has a tower mounted at the bottom in a transverse box-section girder, the tower pref. being of round tubular section and welded to the top and bottom and side webs of the girder. The tower (23) is welded directly to the side webs of the girder (22). Its dia. can be greater than the distance of the side webs from each other, so that the planes of these and of the tower walls intersect. There can be vertical slots in the tower, through which the webs pass, and the tower can be welded at the slots to the webs on both sides. The design provides a method of securing the crane tower to a portal which appreciably reduces the requirement for labour and material.
