For applications in forcible turning-off with a relatively large inductance which acts in the commutating circuit, capacitors (C1, C2) having a large capacitance are connected via turn-off thyristors (T1, T3), which capacitors (C1, C2) operate in only one polarity and are thus cheap. The second thyristor (T2) and the second small capacitor (C2) enable respectively reversed connection of the large capacitor (C3). The device is intended in particular for converter-supplied drives with asynchronous machines. <IMAGE>
