<p>Prepn. of sulphonic acid chlorides of formula (I): (where R', R2 and R3 are each H, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, halogen, aryl, aralkyl, aryloxy or a gp. of formula A, B or C or adjacent R' and R2 gps. can together form an opt. substd. cycloaliphatic or aromatic ring) comprises reacting an aromatic cpd. of formula (II) with an almost equimolar amt. of a sulphonating agent for each chlorosulphonic acid gp. to be introduced and with an excess of thionyl chloride. (II) is either added to the sulphonating agent and/or the thionyl chloride or is added simultaneously with the sulphonating agent and the thionyl chloride. (I) are intermediates in the prepn. of dyes. (I) are obtd. in good yields w.r.t. (II) and the sulphonating agent (if chlorosulphonic acid). The reaction mixt. may be distilled. The formation of dilute acid and the pollution problems can be carried out continuously or discontinuously. The sulphonating agent is pref. chlorosulphonic acid. The thionyl chloride is used in an excess of up to 10 moles.</p> |
