PURPOSE:To obtain the title form of highly water-absorptive expansibility with soft feel, thus suitable for paper diaper, etc., by putting a polycarboxylic acid converted into fiber to surfactant treatment and humidification and by forming into a sheet followed by compression. CONSTITUTION:(A) Highly water-absorptive fiber consisting of a polycarboxylic acid or its salt (e.g. polyacrylic acid or its salt) is treated with (B) an anionic and/or nonionic surfactant (e.g. higher alcohol ethylene oxide adduct) so as to be pref. 0.1-5wt.% in add-on. The resultant fiber is then put to humidification to effect 5-80wt.% per wt. of the fiber on a dry basis in moisture content, followed by forming into a sheet which is then compressed, thus obtaining the objective form. |
