<p>1532640 Coating compositions VIANOVA KUNSTHARZ AG 4 Dec 1975 [4 Dee 1974] 49881/75 Heading C3B A binder suitable for use in an aqueous coating composition comprises, in physical admixture or chemically combined, (a) from 5-95% by wt. of a water soluble polyhydroxy component (I) containing at least 1 mole of amine oxide groups in 1000 g. of solids and (b) 5-95% by wt. of a polycarboxylic acid compound (II) having an acid value 30-280 mg. KOH/g. the carboxy groups of which are at least partially neutralized with a nitrogen base. I may be prepared by reacting an epoxy resin with a secondary amine or alkanolamine and then reacting the product formed with a substance which liberates oxygen, e.g. H 2 O 2 . An example of II is prepared by reacting maleic anhydride with a mixture of dehydrated castor oil and linseed oil and subsequently reacting with a mixture of triethylamine and H 2 O 2 . The composition may additionally comprise from 5-40% by wt. of a resin 1 without polyelectrolyte character, having a plurality of reactive groups, e.g. an at least partially etherified melamine/formaldehyde condensate.</p> |
