<p>1532511 Retroreflective coated fabrics MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 9 Jan 1976 [10 Jan 1975] 00862/76 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A fabric for making up into garments has a discontinuous retroreflective coating thereon, each continuous area of the coating (i) comprising one or more retroreflective microspheres of average diameter 200 micrometres or less supported as a monolayer in a binder material, (ii) having at least 1/3 of the microspheres therein being made retroreflective by reflective means disposed between them and the fabric, (iii) having a maximum surface dimension of 0.5 cm or less, and (iv) having a microsphere density of 2000/cm<SP>2</SP> or less. The retroreflective coating may be applied (a) by curtain-coating with particles each of which comprise 1-10 microspheres supported on a layer of hot-melt adhesive, which is subsequently activated by heat, (b) transfercoating a mixture of adhesive latex and microspheres from an etched cylinder, or (b) cascading microspheres on to a tacky binder applied patternwise. Suitable fabrics and adhesives are mentioned.</p> |
