1532670 Change speed control TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 23 Dec 1976 [28 Dec 1975] 53771/76 Heading F2D To prevent the transmission of vibration and other movement to the knob 8 of a ball-mounted gear shift lever 7 from the transmission case 13, a support rod 10, hinged transversely to the case at 15, is secured to a yoke 11 pivotal on transverse bolts 12 to depending links 4, which can pivot on transverse floor-mounted pins 5 and carry a spherically bushed socket 6 receiving a spherical part 9 of the shift lever 7, the lower end of which latter has transverse pivotal connections 17a, 18a through an inclined control rod 16 with the usual slide-turn selector rod 19 projecting from the transmission ease 13. The ratio between the distances from the shift lever knob 8 to the lower end pivot 17a and to the shift-lever ball 9 is equal to that between the distance from the pivots 5 to the pivots 12 and to the centre of the ball 9 (see Fig. 5, not shown), whereby any rearward movement of the transmission case 13 causes the yoke 11 to swing about the link pivots 5 whilst the lever 7 pivots about the ball 9, with the lever knob 8 providing an unmoved instantaneous centre. The spherical bushing 6b for the lever ball 9, and the lever end bushing 17b are of nylon, whilst the bushings 12b, 15b and 18b are of softer rubber. The pivot 18a may be replaced by a Hooke's type universal joint. |
