1532464 Sprinkler SANWA SEIKI KK 24 March 1976 [28 March 1975] 11761/76 Heading A5A [Also in Division B2] A temperature-responsive sprinkler for spraying liquid e.g. water onto fires, comprises a frusto conical housing 1 having a threaded portion 11 for connection to a discshaped cover member 2, the housing having a plurality of apertures 13 in the frusto conical surface 12, the cover member having an inlet 21 for liquid, the inlet being normally obturated by a member 3 having a plate 32 and legs 31, the member 3 being supported in an obturating position by a supporting member 5 which holds legs 31 of member 3 in an opening 15 of the housing 1, so that plate 32 obturates the inlet 21, the member 5 having arms 51 welded to it which arms abut the surface defining opening 15, which welds are made of a metal melting at a suitable temperature, thus allowing member 5 to fall away at this temperature and thus opening the inlet 21 to allow sprinkling. The plate 32, which is preferably of a soft metal, such as copper, to maintain a good seal against inlet 21, is pressed against the inlet, adjustably by a member 4 having an adjusting screw 41, the member 4 being fitted between members 5 and 3, the adjusting screw 41 being adjusted from outside the housing through an aperture 53 in member 5. A suitable metal for the welds is bismuth which melts at 75‹C. The walls 14 defining apertures 13 are stated to be perpendicular to the surface to be sprayed.
