1532558 Luminous device for visually representing sounds SOC CYBERSON 29 July 1976 [1 Aug 1975] 31557/76 Heading A6M [Also in Divisions F4 and G5] A luminous device for visually representing sounds of a type that uses luminous interference fringes comprises n separate luminous sources A B C D fed by means capable of modifying the flux of the source according to the variations of a phenomenon external to the device each source being associated with an opaque screen 2, 3, 4, 5 arranged between it and a neighbouring source, the cross-sections of the screens increasing in a direction away from a first outermost source and n-1 light receiving surfaces 3a, 4a, 5a, at least, arranged in various planes so that each of them can be let partially at least by all the luminous sources situated in front of it. The light receiving surfaces can be edge portions of the opaque screens or separate screens in the shape of an annulus or of segments in the same or in different planes thereto (Figs. 2, 3 and 4 not shown). The screens and the light receiving surfaces may be of various shapes (Fig. 5, not shown). Light from the various sources produces interference patterns on the receiving surfaces as viewed from 12 and these patterns can be varied by modifying the flux from each source by means of an apparatus 10 in accordance with the variations of an external phenomenon such as the sound of music. The device can thus be used to enhance the listening to music. It can also be used in learning music; in the orchestration of music and for developing and learning language.
