Oil slick cleaning system from water surface - pumps mixture into tank full of water expelling surplus water

The system cleans a water surface of an oil slick by sucking the oily layer on board a vessel and storing it on the vessel. The layer is pumped into a tank completely full of water or of a mixture of water and oil, forcing out the surplus water present. The liquid in the tank can be held under increased hydrostatic pressure during the pumping operation. Overflow pipes (16 16) can be provided above the highest points of the tanks (4 5) and on both port and starboard sides of the vessel there can be sweeper booms (22 22') hinging in both vertical and horizontal planes and let down below water level. Flexible hoses (12 13) from the pump suction pipes (14, 15) lead to the booms on the sides nearest the bows.
