<p>The invention provides a method of attaching a zipper and zipper guard and a sock to a moulded shell to form the upper and leg of a boot, comprising: inserting the sock into the shell; positioning a zipper and zipper guard on an insert member so as to lie in line with and over a slot in the insert member; inserting the insert carrying the zipper and zipper guard between the shell and the sock; and welding the shell, the zipper and zipper guard and the sock together, the slot in the insert member allowing the zipper and zipper guard to contact and be welded to the sock. The invention further provides apparatus for welding a boot shell and a sock to a zipper and zipper guard, comprising a support for supporting the sock, the zipper and zipper guard and the boot shell from within the sock during welding, a welding head carrying means for applying heat to the shell to cause the zipper and zipper guard to be welded to the shell and to the sock, the welding head being movable to engage the shell and hold the zipper and zipper guard under pressure in contact with the shell and the sock, an insert member having a slot formed therein, the insert member being for carrying the zipper and zipper guard in line with and over the slot,the zipper guard being insertable between the boot shell and the sock to position the zipper and zipper guard therebetween, downward movement of the welding head depressing the insert to cause the support to be received in the slot to allow the sock to contact the zipper and zipper guard along the length of the slot.</p> |
