<p>The invention concerns a process for wet transfer printing and a machine for effecting this process. The machine includes a rotatable, heated cylinder around which a transfer web and a fabric web are continuously passed one on top of the other, the two webs being held together and in contact with the cylinder by means of a continuous belt which is guided around a portion of the cylinder with the two webs therebetween. The belt is made of a water impervious material and several pressure applicator devices are provided at circumferentially spaced locations around the cylinder for applying pressure, in addition to that provided by the belt, to the transfer/fabric web combination. The webs are periodically subjected by the pressure applicator devices to the additional pressures when the webs pass between these devices and the cylinder. The individual magnitudes of the additional pressures progressively increase in the direction of passage of the webs around the cylinder. The combined effect of the pressure exerted by the belt and the additional pressures is sufficient to flatten the fabric web whereby the fabric and transfer webs are placed in intimate contact and also sufficient to form a continuous aqueous film between the two webs.</p> |
