Catalytic conversion of lower aliphatic ethers and for alcohols to hydrocarbons, at 150-450 degrees C in presence of amorphous, non-acid-activated Al silicate. The catalyst contains >75% SiO2 and is calcined at 750 degrees C. Conversion of ether and/or alcohol in a single pass is kept at 60%. The feed pref. consists of dimethyl ether or methanol. Content of SiO2 is suitably 85-95% and calcination is at 650 degrees C max. Reaction is at 250-450 degrees C (300-400) degrees C and conversion in a single pass is 40-55% to prevent excessive formation of byproducts. The catalyst remains active for >1000 Hr cf 90 mins for known acid Al silicate catalysts, and can be regenerated e.g. by heating at 500 degrees C in air. Use of expensive zeolite catalysts and corrosion caused by catalyst contg. ZnCl2 are avoided. Elevated pressure is unnecessary. |
