PURPOSE:To generate an optimum damping force by selecting one or two damping force mechanisms, composed of an orifice section and valve mechanism, by means of a metering pin according to the position of piston stroke. CONSTITUTION:Pistons 18 and 19 positioned in series in a cylinder 17 is provided with a damping force generating mechanism composed of orifices 30 and 31 and disk valves 26 to 29, respectively. When a bypass passage 34 is opened by the small diameter section 33a of a metering pin 33, a damping force is generated by the damping force generating mechanism provided on the piston 18 since the other piston 19 is bypassed. On the other hand, when the bypass passage 34 is not connected through the the large diameter section 33b of a metering pin 33, the damping force generating mechanisms for both pistons 18 and 19 are operated to generate a combined damping force. Thus an optimum damping force can be generated according to the type of motor vehicle. |
