A ballast type detection circuit includes: a ballast signal clamping part which is electrically connected to a ballast, and clamps an output of the ballast; and a ballast type detection part which determines a type of the ballast by comparing the output of the ballast with first and second reference clocks having frequencies which are lower than an output frequency of a first type ballast and are higher than an output frequency of a second type ballast. Therefore, the ballast type detection circuit can detect an electronic ballast and a magnetic ballast through a digital output signal, and can reduce external circuits and devices.
