Transfer belts slide over a table, rough mowings of reeds being laid on the belts in a regular layer. The reeds are locked between alternate upper and lower belts whose pressure can be regulated so that the reeds take up an undulating form before passing to a comb and cutting blade. The comb removes short reeds in the base of the bundles. The cutting blade removes reeds which have passed between the belts. Beaters feed the reeds to a pivotally mounted gate which, when a required weight of reeds has collected releases so that they drop to a press portion for compression. The supply of reeds is temporarily interrupted by a divider plate and claws.
|
