Electrically operated valve for vehicle gas heater - has mechanical safety latch withdrawable for preventing accidental movement of armature of electromagnet

The safety valve, esp. for heating gas installations in vehicles, has a closure disc (37) spring-urged against a seat. The valve is normally held open by a spring-urged plunger (81) being part of an armature (76) of an electromagnet. When this is energised the plunger is withdrawn and the valve closes. Withdrawal of the plunger allows a latch bolt (102) to slip into a position preventing return of the plunger when the magnet is deenergised again. The valve cannot be opened by accidental movement of the plunger e.g. due to shock or momentum affects. The latch bolt is withdrawable manually (22) when it is required to open the valve.
