The wheel rim (1) is carried in a box type housing (2) which turns on bearings (3) around a shaft (4) carried on the end (5) of the suspension arm (6). Inside the box housing is a field coil (7) and the armature (8) is inside it, carried on the shaft. A pulley (9) turns on a sleeve (10) which can slide on the shaft. When a lever (11) presses on the sleeve a clutch lining (12) grips the wheel. The pulley (9) is connected by belt to a smaller pulley (13) which is fixed to a shaft carrying another pulley (14) driven by a petrol engine. The electric motor is fed from a battery carried on the vehicle.
