Torque measurement transducer for small axial torques - has strain gauges mounted on radial leaf springs connecting inner with outer ring

A sensitive torque transducer is for use when small axial torques are to be measured but where relatively large axial and lateral shaft bending loads are present. The basic device consists of an inner(2) and outer(1) ring, connected by an array of radial leaf springs(3) on which are mounted appropriate deflection measurement devices such as strain gauges. A limit stop rod(7) mounted on the inner ring, with a corresponding slot(8) in the outer ring, prevents overloading. The whole unit is mounted in a strong outer casing so that the inner ring(2) can be connected by posts to a plate to which the torque is applied.
