Offshore well safety shell - prevents sea water contamination by hydrocarbon leakage

The production tubes of offshore oil and natural gas wells, together with their valves and fittings, are surrounded by a cylindrical structure which retains any escaping gas or oil. A smaller pipe is provided to check for any leaks, an a larger pipe can be used to direct any blow-out into tanks. This prevents both slow leakage of hydrocarbons which may be deadly for the fish population and contamination of sea and shore by large sudden outbursts.
