A nutrient solution containing ion-exchanger plant food is additioned with a mixture of this ion-exchanger plant food and calcium sulphate. This causes the nutrients to be liberated rapidly, in particular at the beginning, and independently of the type of irrigation water. Optimal plant growth takes place. The nutrient solution is preferably additioned with other active substances in porous, capillary particles, so that these active substance too are released into the nutrient solution over a prolonged period. The mixture of ion-exchanger plant food, calcium sulphate and, if appropriate, particles, is packaged in a plastic container (8) and then introduced into the hydroponics container (1), the exchange of substances from the container (8) into the nutrient solution taking place through a plastics mesh (11) which is permeable to the solution and covers an opening (10') of the container (8). <IMAGE> |
