Fuel injection system for IC engine - has common solenoid valve for injectors in cylinders operated by fuel pressure

An internal combustion engine (1) has a fuel pump (8) which supplies fuel injection valves (3, 4, 5, 6) in the suction pipes to individual cylinders. There is a single solenoid valve (7) between the pump and the injection valves. The fuel pipe branches to the individual valves on the downstream side of the solenoid valve. The solenoid valve is energised from an electronic controller (10) which determines the time and period of the opening of the valve according to input signals representing engine parameters such as speed, temp. acceleration or load. The fuel injection valves are opened by the pressure of the fuel delivered to them.
