The sign which can be assembled has an element as a panel (11) with rails (12) which run parallel to its longitudinal edges, are outwardly angled off and set back with respect to the panel edges. On the opposite side of the panel (11) to the rails (12) the panel has parallel rails (14) which form a laterally, outwardly open C and permit panels (11) lying parallel to one another to be connected to one another by inserting an I-shaped element (20) into the C-rails (14). Each C-rail (14) of the panel (11) is followed by at least one inwardly open U-rail (15) for the purpose of inserting a strip, preferably a label strip. Each C-rail (14) of the panel (11) is followed by two U-rails (15), of which the U-rail nearer to the panel is provided for inserting a label strip and the U-rail further from the panel is provided for inserting a cover strip. The U-profile element (22) to be facing the panels (11) is supplemented on its outside by a C-profile. Said sign can be assembled from a kit of individual elements to form large signs, the individual elements being made at the factory and it being possible for unskilled workers to put them together without any difficulty either in the factory or at the site of use. <IMAGE>
