In one process, using starting materials contg. impurities, CdSO4 and hydrochloric acid in low concentrations are reacted with H2S. Alternatively, solns. of CdSO4 contg. HCl in low concn. are reacted with H2S and impurities are then dispersed into the resulting CdS. Process can control crystal growth of CdS in the range of about 1 to 3 mu by varying concns. of HCl in the range of 0.001 N to 0.5 N.
