An engine or pump working with any fluid has three cylinders arranged at 120 deg. relative to each other. Each cylinder contains a piston (2) which has a piston rod (3) which is guided on a shaft (4) running above and below the piston. The machine has three crankshafts (5) placed symmetrically between the cylinders. The crank pins (5) are linked in pairs by cross arms (6). The cross arms hve slots along their length and each piston rod has a roller which runs in the slot of one cross arm. The reciprocating motion of the piston rods is transformed into rotation of the crankshaft by the movement of the rollers in the cross arms.
