The movable contact of a puffer type interrupter is movably connected to the nozzle of the puffer breaker so that, when the contacts of the puffer breaker separate, the arc is initiated downstream of the nozzle throat and thereafter the nozzle and contact move relative to one another to place the contact upstream of the nozzle throat and to a position which maximized the interruption operation of the breaker.
