The concrete mast for overhead cables or street lighting contains an improvement enabling it, when subjectd to load, such as snow or ice, to break at a specified distance from the ground, and enabling a temporary post to be fixed to the stump. The mast is of polygonal cross-section, such as ocatagonal, and has flat surfaces. At a height of between three and six metres from the ground, are recesses (2) in the edges of the mast, so that, when the pole breaks, it forms two parts joined by the flat surfaces contributing to the buckling.
