The electric coffee maker has a conventional water supply system (2 to 8) and a calcination indicator (18). This is mounted on an air and/or steam filled compression chamber (20) connected to the supply system and also to a pressure sensor (16) which at a certain pressure actuates the calcination indicator (18). The pressure chamber (20) can have a blow-out channel (15) which in the normal state is closed by an excess pressure valve (16) designed as the pressure sensor of the indicator (18). This indicator can be formed by a whistle or other economically manufactured sound emitter set in the blow-out channel (15) and steam actuated.
