Sandwich safety glass - with polycarbonate core and silicate glass outer sheets held together by vacuum

Safety glass panes are made of two outer silicate glass sheets and an inner polycarbonate layer in a U-shaped frame. The inside is evacuated so that the atmospheric pressure keeps the sandwich pane together and no adhesives are required. The arrangement prevents internal stresses caused by temp. fluctuations. It combines the high scratch resistance of silicate glass with the high toughness and elasticity of polycarbonate. Panes of up to 2 m length can thus be produced. It provides domestic glazing with a high degree of protection against forced entry.
