The mechanical support arrangement has pivoted arms on both vehicle sides. The arms are connected in lifted state by transverse tube, and readily operated by one person. The projecting arm support (50) is pivoted at one end on the frame (12) of the excavator (10). The overhanging arm support (50) assumes inclined position in its supported position so that its centre of gravity is situated outside the vertical plane passing through its pivot. This arm is moved away from the transverse tube when the arms (14) are moved upwards in the direction of the rest position. The arms fall automatically into supported position on passing the transverse tube.
