For the thyristors of a pulse-controlled converter in a bridge circuit and having an impressed voltage on the AC side and on whose DC side an impressed current flows, the object exists of specifying a simple turning-off circuit which allows the commutating capacitors to be charged to a defined value so that it is possible to turn the thyristors off independently of the voltage at the input of the pulse-controlled converter. This object is achieved in that the arms of the one half bridge or of both half bridges of the bridge circuit are in each case connected to one another on the AC side via a commutating capacitor (CK) and each bridge arm is provided, between this junction point and the AC circuit, with a further thyristor (T3, T4), as a turning-off thyristor. <IMAGE>
