Di:chloro-propanol continuous prodn. - from epichlorohydrin and hydrogen chloride gas in presence of the di:chloro-propanol

The continuous prodn. of 1,3-dichloropropanol-2-comprises reacting stoichiometric amts. of epichlorohydrin and HCl gas simultaneously at 25-60 degrees C for 0.1-5 hrs. in the presence of 1,3-dichloropropanol-2. Used as solvent for adhesives and resins. At >20 degrees C the formation of the isomeric 2,3-dichloro-propanol-2-and other by-products is so reduced that the 1,3-isomer is obtd. in >97% purity.
