The incandescent lamp may use an evacuated or inert gas filled glass bulb. Inside the bulb is mounted the lamp filament with a mantel element which provides luminous output, induced by the heat generated by the filament. The mantel may be of wire coated with a textile fabric impregnated with rare earth metal nitrate, such as thorium and cerium.
