The central heating is by hot water, which flows through tubes on top of the floor but within the floor covering. The tubes are of metal or plastics, rigid or flexible, or they may be formed by channels in a plastics material. The tubes may be of an optional cross-section, and may be positioned in groups, extending straight or in curved direction. The connected tubes serve as a base for a coating, or a carpet, or may be contained within the carpet. Both ends of each tube end in collection tubes, which extend to the feed and return connections along the sides of the floor. An insulating layer below the floor covering increases heating efficiency. When supplied with cold water, the floor covering may be used for cooling.
