Data processing unit keyboard illumination - using single strip light in retractable reflective holder

A keyboard illumination device for data processing units is partic. applicable to cash registers and accounting machines which may have to be operated in darkened or poorly lit surroundings. It avoids the necessity of individual lamps for each key leading to expensive keyboards, undesired heat generation, and costly illumination level control where required. A holder (4) supporting a lamp (7) and having a reflecting surface (6) may be pivoted out of the body of the unit, thus enabling the lamp to illuminate the keyboard (12). The lamp is of elongated construction and stretches the breadth of the keyboard. The keys may be top coated with fluorescent material.
