1530422 4-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1- ylidene)-butan-2-ol L GIVAUDAN & CIE SA 10 March 1976 [11 March 1975 30 Dec 1975] 54329/76 Divided out of 1530421 Heading C2C A process for the preparation of 4-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ylidene)-butan-2-ol having the formula comprises reducing a 4-(2,6,6-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-ylidene)-2-acyloxy-but-2-ene having the formula wherein R is an acyl radical, e.g. an alkanoyl or aroyl radical such as acetyl or benzoyl, which, in itself, is suitably obtained by reacting #- ionone of the formula with an enol acylate, preferably in the presence of an acid catalyst, e.g. p-toluenesulphonic acid. The reduction is suitably effected by means of a complex hydride at a temperature of from - 10‹ to + 80‹ C. in the presence of an alcohol and/or ether solvent. |
