1530822 Protein and serum extraction FRANCE LUZERNE 23 Feb 1976 [25 Feb 1975] 07030/76 Heading C3H A process for the treatment of vegetable matter, comprises: (a) pressing the vegetable matter to provide a pressing juice and a pressing cake; (b) dehydrating the cake by passing it into a dehydration zone heated to a high temperature, i.e. one sufficient to produce a dehydrated cake and stack gases, as herein defined, which stack gases have a temperature of from 100‹ to 120‹ C. at a pressure corresponding substantially to atmospheric pressure, and contain steam, CO 2 , nitrogen and oxygen; (c) introducing at least part of the stack gases into a heat exchanger, at least part of the steam in the stack gases being condensed in said heat exchanger to provide a condensate; and (d) utilizing heat extracted from the stack gases in said heat exchanger in one or more subsequent process steps for the treatment of the pressing juice and/or pressing cake, which process steps require a heat supply. Preferably the pressing juice is subjected to a protein extraction treatment to yield a protein fraction and a serum fraction. The vegetable matter may be alpha-alpha. |
