During the continuous preparation of electrode material, pitch, coal dust and solid fillers are processed by mixing and kneading with an input of heat to a paste. Mixing and kneading continues without interruption from the charging of the components up to the discharge of the product from the kneading chamber with a longitudinal and tranverse exchange in the mass flow without any intermediate pressure release. Paste of high quality can be produced, using hot liquid pitch or cold solid pitch. Used esp. for prodn. of an electrode for the electrolysis of molten Al.
