PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect abnormality such as fuel oil leakage, and to determine a position where the abnormality may have occurred.SOLUTION: An abnormality detecting method includes the steps of: calculating a first increase/decrease amount of fuel oil in an underground tank during a first period when the fuel oil is not injected; calculating a total supply amount of fuel oil from a metering machine during the first period; calculating a difference between the first increase/decrease amount and the total supply amount from the metering machine during the first period; determining that fuel oil leakage may have occurred in at least one of the underground tank and pipes when the difference is larger than a tolerance for the first period, and the total supply amount is larger than the first increase/decrease amount in the underground tank; and determining that water contamination may have occurred in at least one of the underground tank and the pipes when the first increase/decrease amount of fuel oil in the underground tank is larger than the total supply amount from the metering machine. In addition, in consideration of pressure conditions of the pipes, the abnormality detecting method infers a position where the fuel oil leakage or the water contamination may have occurred.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
