PURPOSE:To prevent a steering shaft from being pushed up into the cabin side by diving an intermediate shaft into two so as to be connected with each other using universal joints, fixing them onto a car body via a break-away, and thereby separating the intermediate shaft away from a car body fixing section in order to be bent at the time of a frontal collision. CONSTITUTION:A steering shaft 1 is connected with a gear box 5 fixed on a car body frame 26 via universal joints 7 and 8 by means of an intermediate shaft 6 wherein a shaft 9 at the upper side of the intermediate shaft 6 is connected with a shaft 10 at the lower side thereby by an universal joint 11. A stationary bracket 23 which is fixed with bolts 24 inserted into the stationary holes 21d of the capsules 21 of a breakaway 13 connected with the shaft 9 at the upper side, the fixedly fastened on the car body frame 26 by bolts via a support member 25. When shock load owing to a head-on collision is applied, the breakaway 13 is separated away from the stationary bracket 23 so that the intermediate shaft 6 is bent, pushing-up of the steering shaft 1 into the cabin side can thereby be prevented. |
